Detailed African Primates, Wildlife Viewing & Leisure Safari Itinerary

Day 1: A road trip to Murchison Falls National Park, Rhino tracking Enroute

Have breakfast early morning and a warm welcome, greeting from a Uganda safari guide. A short briefing about the 15 days Uganda Rwanda gorillas & Kenya great migration and after, drive 5-6 hours to Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP).

En-route to Murchison Falls along Kampala-Gulu highway, visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking 2hrs experience, drive to have lunch at a hotel in Masindi.

Today, access to Murchison Falls NP will be via Kichumbanyobo Gate in the south.

Day 2: Activities: Game drive & boat cruise

After the early breakfast, game drive will be your first activity for the day in Murchison Falls NP taking about 2-3 hours.

The Northern region of Murchison Falls national park will have you exposed to interesting animal species such as African bush elephants, cape buffaloes, lions, giraffes, warthogs, birds, leopards, antelopes.

Retreat from Murchison’s golden savanna plains, have lunch, relax as you wait for the afternoon activities-boat cruise to see hippos, crocodiles, bird; and hike to the top of the falls 45 minutes.

Day 4: Road Trip to Kibale National Park – Western Uganda

Murchison Falls NP to Kibale Forest takes about 7 to 8 hours; have breakfast early and leave for Kibale National Park one of the iconic sites that the 15 days Uganda Rwanda gorillas & Kenya great migration package includes.

Settle at a hotel for en-route lunch in Fort Portal, then later check into your lodge near Kibale forest.

Day 5: Chimp Tracking

Breakfast early and settle for briefing about chimp trekking rules at Kanyanchu ranger station. At 8:00am, the actual trek begins to search for chimpanzees – lasting for 2-4 hours which include 1 hour of photo taking, close interaction with chimps etc.

Exit Kibale Forest which houses 13 species of primates including 1500 chimpanzees, settle for lunch and later, visit Bigodi Wetland/Sanctuary for nature walks, to sight diversity of birds like Great Blue Turacos.

Day 6: 3 hours’ drive from Queen Elizabeth NP from Kibale & afternoon boat cruise

Drive to Queen Elizabeth n/park – 3 hours via Fort Portal-Kasese highway. Rise up for early morning breakfast at Kibale and check out of the lodge and meet your guide for a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

A boat cruise on Kazinga Channel lasting for 2-3 hours will explore this 40kms stretch of channel that connects Lake Edward & Lake George. While here, sight crocodiles basking on the river banks, hippos and birds.

Day 7: Game drive & transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest

Day 7 of the 15 days Uganda Rwanda gorillas & Kenya great migration begins with breakfast and leave the lodge for a morning game drive.

2-3 hours via Kasenyi game drive-animal sightings include elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes, lions, leopards etc.

Retreat for early lunch and after, drive to Ishasha for excellent views of tree climbing lions then go check into accommodation at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which shelters over 20 habituated gorilla groups, about 459 individual mountain gorillas.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking & Batwa community tours

Day 8 will be dedicated to gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Have breakfast early, settle at Buhoma region or Ruhija, Rushaga & Nkuringo as guided by your gorilla permit, get briefed about regulations for gorilla tracking.

Leave the briefing point when equipped with packed lunch and plenty of drinking water, trek for 2-4 hours which cover 1 hour with group that is habituated. Retreat thereafter, settle at the park offices to receive your gorilla trekking certificate and after connect back to your accommodation.

Day 9: Bwindi to Volcanoes National park in Rwanda, 3-4 hours

Day 9 will be for you to transfer to Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda, 3-4 hours’ drive. Connecting areas will be Katuna or Chanika border, then drive to Ruhengeri region.

Day 10: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda & Iby’Iwacu village tour/visit

Day 10 includes tracking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda for 2-4 hours and it includes 1 hour with family already habituated.

13 groups of mountain gorillas are open for tracking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park but today, a chance will be given to you to track only one, and retreat for lunch thereafter. Either go for an afternoon visit to Gorilla Guardians Village (optional) or drive to Kigali Capital.

Day 11:  Fly to Nairobi from Kigali Airport, drive to Masai Mara – 5 hours

Have breakfast and catch up with an early flight to Nairobi setting off from Kigali Airport. Connect from Nairobi airport using a 4WD vehicle to access Masai Mara National Reserve.

Day 12: Full-day in Masai Mara

Whole day will be dedicated for Mara National Reserve. The day begins after breakfast back from your lodging facility at Mara Reserve, Narok County Southwestern Kenya.

Expected experiences today range from Great Migration, Big Game viewing, Bird sighting and picnic lunch at the banks of R. Mara.

Day 13: Game drive & hot air balloon

Have breakfast early and set off for early morning game/wildlife viewing in the Masai Mara where you will be spotting a lot more species such as lions, buffaloes, giraffes etc.

Other activities/experiences to enjoy today include visit to Masai people and sunset an adventurous hot air balloon ride.

Day 14: Morning game drive & return to Nairobi

Day 14 morning game drive in Masai Mara Reserve: Wake up early and have morning game drive before setting off to Nairobi where you dropped at the hotel.

Day 15: Departure

Rise up early and be driven to the airport in Kenya to fly back home-marking the end of 15 Days African Primates, Wildlife Viewing & Leisure Safari.
