Uganda Wildlife & Chimpanzee Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls & Ziwa rhino tracking en-route

Day one of your 5 days Murchison Falls & Kibale safari will begin with early breakfast, after, drive to Murchison Falls 5-6 hours. You will start driving from Kampala via Gulu highway, then branch off for Rhino tracking at Ziwa, about 7kms off from main route.

Day 2: Game drive and launch cruise excursion

Have breakfast early and the 2nd day of 5 days Murchison Falls & Kibale in Murchison Falls N/Park takes you on a game drive early morning. Today, expect to keep an eye on buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, birds, warthogs, elephants, lions, leopards. After experiencing the Northern circuit, drive back to enjoy lunch at leisure then have afternoon launch cruise. Take part on a Nile boat cruise hoping to enjoy view of crocodiles, hippos, aquatic birds and the afterwards trek to the top of falls.

Day 3: Kibale Forest, 7-8 hours’ drive

Early morning cup of coffee/tea, after check out of the lodge and then day 3 of your Uganda tour will mainly be transferring to Kibale Forest. This will be long day drive estimated to cover 7-8 hours but you have en-route lunch stop at Fort Portal and then overnight at Kibale Forest N Park in Kabarole district.

Day 4: Chimp tracking in Kibale Forest from Kanyanchu

Tracking Chimp in Kibale NP starts after briefing 7:00-8:00am. All briefing about chimp tracking rules starts at Kanyanchu Visitor Centre which is just minutes’ walk away from Primate Lodge.

Expect to dedicate about 2-4 hours tracking chimpanzees but worth the time as you also view lots of other primates like grey cheeked mangabeys, baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys etc.

Trek back from Kibale Forest after spending 1 hour with chimp community. Lunch at leisure at your respective booked lodges and after, Bigodi wetland is where your evening will be spent. The swamp sanctuary houses 137 bird species and essentially, you will have sight of Great Blue turacos, papyrus gonoleks; butterflies, primates and others.

Day 5: Departure

Breakfast at leisure, meet your driver for return journey via Fort Portal, Mubende, and Mityana to Kampala – 5-6 hours’ drive. End of the 5 days Murchison Falls & Kibale-Uganda, The Pearl of Africa.
