1 Day Murchison Falls Wildlife & Boat Safari Tour in Uganda

Did you know it is possible to visit Murchison Falls National Park in just a day? Murchison Falls National Park is the oldest and largest Uganda safari park. The national park spans an area of 3,893 square kilometers. It is home to so many mammals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Rhinoceros, Lions, Leopards, Hippopotamuses and more species of wildlife. Its main center piece is the Murchison Falls, the world’s most explosive waterfall.

Murchison Falls National Park is situated in Masindi District, about 3 – 4 hours away from Kampala by road and just 1 hour away by flight.

1 Day Murchison Falls Tour Overview

Since you are only visiting for a day. This tour requires an early departure. Depending on your budget and preference, you have a chance to choose from flights or road transfer. Flights take approximately 1 hour where as travelling by road takes 3 to 4 hours. You will have packed lunch in the wild depending on your arrival time.

Option 1 – Transfer by flight

Morning flights depart at 8:00am. If you catch one, you will be in Murchison Falls before 9:00, catch up with a game viewing drive till mid day, have lunch at one of the lodges within, proceed for the afternoon boat ride, retreat from the boat cruise and have another evening game drive as you depart the national park.

You will get to see animals like Elephants, Warthogs, Oribi, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Lions, Hippopotamuses, Crocodiles, several species of birds and so much more.

You will arrive in Kampala late in the night and check in to your safari lodge for an overnight. Please note that you cannot depart on the same day unless your flight is scheduled past 00:00 hrs.

When you travel by flight, you will have more time to carry out activities unlike when you travel by road. The flight will make it possible for you to enjoy a cruise to the bottom of the falls.

You can only transfer by flight and return by road.

Option 2 – Transfer by Road

A road drive will call for an extremely early departure. You have to be on road by 0600 hrs so that at 10:00 you are in the park.

When you arrive in Masindi, you will head for Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary before you proceed to hike the top of the falls at Murchison Falls National Park. After hiking the top of the falls, you will carry out a game drive and exit the park before dusk to return to Kampala.

Whilst you carry out the game drive, you will get to see animals like Elephants, Warthogs, Oribi, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Lions, Hippopotamuses and several others.

You will spend another 3 – 4 hours driving to Kampala.
