East African Tourist Visa for Uganda, Kenya & Rwanda

East African Tourist Visa

The East African Tourist Visa is the best option for travelers planning to visit Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda. These three countries are among the top tourism destinations in the world.

Uganda is home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, Kenya is famous for its national parks and the Big Five, and Rwanda is known for the Virunga volcanoes and its mountain gorillas.

The East African Tourist Visa is a single, multiple-entry visa that allows foreign travelers to enter Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda. It was created by the Heads of State of these partner countries to promote regional tourism and make it easier for visitors to explore East Africa through one joint travel initiative.

A traveler who obtains this visa must begin their trip in the country that issued the visa. It can be obtained from immigration offices in any of the three countries or applied for online.

The visa is valid for 90 days and automatically expires once the traveler leaves any of the participating countries.

All applicants must apply individually with travel documents valid for at least six months. The East African Tourist Visa costs $100 per person and does not permit the holder to work.

Foreign residents living in Uganda, Kenya, or Rwanda can use an interstate pass valid for six months instead of the East African Tourist Visa. Nationals of these three countries can use their national identity cards when traveling within the region, while students can travel using their school identity cards.

  • Uganda: If you are starting your trip in Uganda, you can find visa information on the consular section of your local Ugandan Embassy website.
  • Rwanda: Travelers beginning their journey in Rwanda can apply online through the Rwanda Visa Application System. Under “Type of Visa,” select East Africa Tourist Visa, or contact the Rwandan Embassy for assistance.
  • Kenya: If you plan to start your visit in Kenya, you can find the necessary information on the consular section of your local Kenyan Embassy website.

Travel Requirements

A recent color passport photo is required. It must be taken without a hat, scarf, or glasses. Attach the photo to the application form, but do not use staples or clips.

The application form must be fully completed, and a visa application letter addressed to the concerned country’s authority must be submitted.
