Detailed 10-Day Uganda Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala/Entebbe – Bwindi National Park at 7:00 am
Have a hearty breakfast early and then leave Kampala for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Drive for 8-9 hours and stop en-route at the Equator and for lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre.
Check into your lodge in Bwindi, Southwestern Uganda.
Different routes offer easier access to Bwindi National Park’s 4 gorilla trekking regions: Buhoma, about 460 km, can be reached through Kihihi and Butogota route; Ruhija sector on Kampala-Kisoro route; and the Southern sectors of Rushaga & Nkuringo from Kampala via Kisoro route.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking
After an amazing breakfast, immerse yourself in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for gorilla trekking.
Receive briefing from any of the 4 regions, learn about gorilla trekking regulations, and track one of the 20 families of mountain gorillas habituated for tourism.
Depart your lodge with packed lunch and bottled water, and start trekking at 8:00 am with a guide from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Relax back at your lodge in Bwindi, Uganda, and later visit the Batwa pygmies for a cultural experience.
Day 3: Bwindi National Park to Kigali. Flight to Tanzania
After breakfast, drive to Kigali and take a flight to Arusha airport in Tanzania. Arrive early and transfer to your lodge or hotel for an overnight stay in Arusha city.
Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park – Tanzania Safari
Enjoy an early breakfast and drive to Lake Manyara National Park in the Northern circuit of Tanzania for an early game drive. Explore the incredible Great Rift Valley, spot large herds of buffaloes, see the tree-climbing lions, birds, and later visit the Esilalei Maasai Village. In the afternoon, visit Mto wa Mbu village for a cultural experience before returning to the lodge.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Safari
Have an early morning breakfast, leave Lake Manyara for Ngorongoro Crater, and stop en-route at Olduvai Gorge. Arrive early, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for splendid scenery and wildlife viewing in this natural wonder of the world. Enjoy lunch and then drive to Serengeti National Park.
Day 6: Guided Game Drive Serengeti National Park – Tanzania
Early breakfast, followed by a guided game drive across the Serengeti plains. Explore this 14,500 sq. km park, Tanzania’s oldest, witness the great wildebeest migration (seasonal), or enjoy viewing the Big Five game, explore the Kopjes, and the riverine regions of Serengeti.
Day 7: Serengeti to Zanzibar Archipelago
Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, then embark on a short game drive in Serengeti as you connect to Seronera Central Airstrip. Take a charter flight to Arusha, then fly to Zanzibar/Abeid Amani Karume Airport. Relax for the rest of the day, enjoying stunning views of Zanzibar’s beautiful beaches.
Day 8: Enjoy Water Sports in Zanzibar
After breakfast, explore the turquoise waters of Zanzibar on a snorkeling adventure at Mnemba Marine Park. Later, enjoy sunset views of the beach during dinner.
Day 9: Tour Stone Town
Early breakfast, then leave Matemwe beach for Stone Town. Check into the hotel, then take a guided walk through the historic Stone Town. Visit uniquely designed historic buildings, ancient sites of the slave trade, etc. After exploring Stone Town, retire for the night.
Day 10: Spice Tour & Depart
Early morning breakfast, followed by a half-day spice tour to learn more about the world’s spices. Gain insights into history at the Mtoni Palace ruins.
