You will visit Kibale Forest National Park, Africa’s primate capital and home to over 13 unique primate species, chimpanzees inclusive and Queen Elizabeth National Park, a medley of wonders hosting Africa’s Big 4; leopards, buffaloes, elephants and lions among other small mammals, several bird species, captivating landscapes and primates to mention but a few. Spend the nights on amazing lodges and travel with cool vehicle throughout the safari. This trip starts and ends at Entebbe International Airport.
Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking & Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, the journey to Kibale forest National Park will commence, after a briefing by our company representative who will make sure everything needed for the trip is in place. The drive to Kibale national park lasts for approximately 6-8 hours with an en-route stopover for lunch and amazing views of landscapes, plantations and busy towns.
Kibale forest national park is habitat to over 13 unique primate species, vast plantations and forest mammals such as forest elephants and thus dubbed Africa’s primate capital. You will arrive and check-in at your lodge in the evening hours, spending some time refreshing and admiring the beauty adorned in the place before dinner and a nap at the lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp encounter
Kick start this day with a mouthwatering breakfast meal at the lodge, before heading to the park headquarters for briefing, followed by an ultimate chimp trekking experience. Chimpanzees have over 98% human-like DNA, reside deep in Kibale forest with several other primates such as the white and black Colobus monkeys, baboons and grey-cheeked monkeys; some in which you will encounter or listen to their sound while tracking Chimpanzees.
Tackling the Kibale terrain can last for about 1-5 hours, with amazing sights of birds and several other park residents. Spend about one hour watching and taking photos of your cousins in their natural habitat, as they feed and play.
Thereafter you will return to the lodge for lunch and then spend entire evening exploring Bigodi swamp; one rich Ramsar swamp in Uganda with a large collection of birds and birds such as baboons. You will interact with some local natives at the place before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Crater lakes tour and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park – Night game drive
Start your day in a relaxed mood with Ugandan coffee. Thereafter checkout of the lodge for a tour around Fort portal (Uganda’s tourism city) spending about two hours visiting the different crater lakes and tea plantations.
Thereafter proceed with a 2-3 hours’ drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park; arriving for late lunch and rest at the lodge. At nightfall, you will have an amazing night game drive, looking out for those residents that take advantage of the night cover such as lions, hyenas, Sitatunga antelope and leopards to mention but a few. After the activity, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Game drive and Boat Cruise
Start your morning with a rewarding 3-4 hour game drive in the vast kisenyi region of Queen Elizabeth national park; looking out for the hunters and the hunted roaming in search of water to eat and drink; expect an encounter with a wide range of mammals, notably; elephants, waterbucks, topi, side-stripped jackal, buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, and lions to mention but a few; birds such as the geenefowls, egrets, and the Turacos; primates such as the baboons and unique plant species. You will have a Bush breakfast, before returning to the lodge for dinner and a yummy lunch at the lodge.
In the afternoon, there will be an exciting 2-3 hour boat cruise at Kazinga channel; with an expert driver, a guide showing you the different residents such as the crocodiles, school of hippos, aquatic birds, and the mammals such as elephants quenching their thirst at the shore banks.
Day 5: Departure
Start your day with a hefty breakfast meal early in the morning, after which you will check out for a transfer to Entebbe international airport for your departure flight. Arriving at the equator, you will have a stopover for lunch and to also witness the experiments at the point where the earth is divided between the northern and southern hemispheres.
