Best Time to Visit Uganda – Weather, Seasons & Safari Planning Guide

Best Time to Visit Uganda - A Month-by-Month Guide to Optimal Safari Experiences

Uganda, which is located near the equator, is a beautiful country to visit throughout the year. This is because temperatures do not change much during the year.

However, it is important to remember that the country experiences two dry seasons and two wet seasons, just like the rest of Africa.

Each of these seasons has its own beauty and gives tourists a different view of the country’s natural wonders. The specific tours and safari activities you want to take part in are another factor to consider when planning your trip.

Dry Seasons in Uganda

You will want to visit the Pearl of Africa more than once to experience everything it has to offer!

It is difficult to explore all of Uganda’s natural attractions and meet its people in just one week, as experts will tell you. To fully enjoy Uganda’s wildlife parks, cities, and towns, you would need at least two weeks.

In Uganda’s rainy season, Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley receive less rainfall than other parks. This is because of Uganda’s hot and humid equatorial climate.

During the rainy season, thunderstorms are common. Additionally, different parks have different weather patterns. It is best to check the ideal time to visit each park.

  • January, February, June, and July are the best months to visit Uganda during the dry season.
  • August and December are good months because they have both dry and rainy periods.
  • March and September are part of the rainy season. However, September is also a busy time with many tourists visiting Uganda.
  • April, May, October, and November are the least ideal months to visit because they are part of the wet season.
  • Hot and cool months: In Uganda, the temperature changes by only 1-4 degrees Celsius from month to month.
  • Best time for bird-watching: The best time to go on a bird-watching safari is between the end of May and September, though this depends on the park. Migratory birds arrive in November and leave by April.
