Detailed 6-Day Bwindi Gorillas & Murchison Falls Safari Itinerary

6-Day Murchison Falls & Bwindi Gorilla Safari - Wildlife Adventure

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Start your day with a delicious breakfast in the morning; thereafter, get behind the steering wheel for a 5-6 hour scenic drive to Murchison Falls, with amazing views of captivating buildings, plantations, and landscapes. The upcountry is very beautiful and you will discover it while traversing the city and the active towns with local natives exhibiting fresh fruits, cassava, honey, and other items for sale.

Have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a rewarding one-hour Rhino trekking experience. Rhinos are classified as endangered and are a member of the African Big 5 mammals. Lunch will follow in Masindi town before heading to the park for registration and then check-in at the lodge in the evening. You will relax and await dinner before retiring for a sweet slumber.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

At daybreak, enjoy your buffet breakfast before departing your lodge for a rewarding 3-4 hours’ game drive in the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park. The northern sector is where we find savannah vegetation and several park residents, both prey and predators.

While finding cats, namely lions and leopards, is pure luck, several other grazers can be seen with ease, such as African elephants, Cape Buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, waterbucks, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, and Oribis, among others. You will conclude the game drive with a photo opportunity and picnic breakfast before having a lunch break.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls, followed by a hike to the top of the world’s most powerful waterfall. On the boat, you will enjoy the cool breeze and the views of several mammals such as hippos, crocodiles, and aquatic birds, to mention a few.

The cruise takes visitors to the point offering the clearest view of deafening thunders and water pouring squeezing through the 8-meter gorge. Proceed with a hike to the top of the falls, crossing the Devil’s Cauldron to the bubbling waters.

Enjoy the breathtaking views and take amazing photos before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park to Kampala

After a very early breakfast, depart Murchison Falls National Park for Kampala.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Pygmies Encounter

Start this day with a delicious breakfast at the lodge and then depart for the park headquarters to meet the rest of the trekkers and park rangers.

The ranger guides will explain the life of these apes, the trekking rules, and allocate you to the gorilla group of your choice.

There are over 15 mountain gorilla families in the park, but you will track only one of them, guided by an experienced ranger guide.

The trekking exercise lasts for roughly 1-8 hours depending on how far the apes have moved and your trekking speed, while identifying several other plants, mammals, primates, and birds in the lush jungle.

Once in the forest, you will have to follow the jungle rhythm, spending a maximum of an hour with your relatives; taking photos, watching them play, feed, and relax before returning to the lodge for lunch and rest.

In the evening, optionally visit the Batwa Pygmies – hunters and gatherers. As you interact in the community, be part of the songs, dance, and smiles before driving back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Departure

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out of the lodge for a rewarding drive to Entebbe International Airport or Kampala City.

There will be a stopover at the equator for photography, lunch, and to confirm the point where the equator divides the world between the southern and northern hemispheres.

End of Safari.
