Detailed Tanzania Zanzibar Family Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Arusha Town
In the shortest time possible, our safari guide will come for you as soon as you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (northern Tanzania), he will then drive you to Arusha hotel from where you will spend a night.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Your safari guide will take you through the entire schedule immediately after breakfast at the hotel; he will then drive you from Arusha town to Tarangire national park where you will reach at a perfect time for lunch.
Here, you will embark on an afternoon game drive and come back for dinner and spend a night at any lodge of your choice.
The game drive at Tarangire national park will introduce you to animals such as cheetah, leopard, lion, elephant, Oryx and lesser kudu in addition to panoramas of open acacia woodland and savannah grassland.
Day 3: Drive from Tarangire to Serengeti National Park, via Olduvai Gorge
Make yourself comfortable with a lip-smacking breakfast and then make your way to Serengeti national park. You will pass via the spectacular Ngorongoro Conservation to Maranja depression as you approach Olduvai Gorge. The gorge is desert-like in nature and is famous for remains of people that dwelt here millions of years ago.
At the historical Olduvai Gorge, you will visit the famous skull of early man who is believed to have lived 1.8 million years ago. His remains –skull (Zinjathropus) were discovered by Dr. Leaky and his wife.
Continue to Serengeti national park for afternoon game drives and delicious lunch. You will then have dinner and spend a night at Seronera area camp.
Day 4 and 5: Serengeti National Park
Covering an area worth 14736 square kilometers, Serengeti national park is adjoined with Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve.
It is Tanzania’s largest and Africa’s most famous national park. It is a famous animal corridor hosting millions of wildebeests that migrate throughout the year.
The population is made of hoofed species among which include but not limited to; zebras, topi, grants gazelle, eland, klipspringer, roan, Oryx, oribi, impala, giraffes and warthog.
These are always accompanied by predators roaming for what to put in their stomachs such as hyenas, leopards, lions, to mention but a few.
Therefore, the two days spent at Serengeti national park are a true reflection of exploration and beauty since they are characterized by morning and afternoon game drives.
Day 6: Transfer from Serengeti national park to Ngorongoro Crater
On your way to the spectacular Ngorongoro Conservation area southeastwards, there is an opportunity for you to view stunning game.
You will have to spend the afternoon at the crater before having dinner and spending a night at any lodge in Ngorongoro.
Ngorongoro crater is an extraordinary nature sanctuary for some of Africa’s populations of large mammals.
Covering an area of 8300 square kilometers, Ngorongoro crater is considered the world’s biggest volcanic caldera in addition to arguably being the most stunning arena.
Ngorongoro crater’s magnificence and population of mammals has made it appear on the list of Seven Wonders of the World.
Ngorongoro crater is volcanic in nature and is a product of fracturing process which created the Rift valley fifteen to twenty million years ago.
Day 7: Ngorongoro crater to Lake Manyara National Park
As soon as you are done with breakfast make your way to Lake Manyara national park and be part of the spectacular afternoon game drives. Ensure that you carry packed lunch to avoid any inconveniences.
Located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara is a shallow alkaline lake which is at the base of the magnificent western escarpment – something that explains its beauty and serene setting.
Lake Manyara is a potential birding area and is also famous for hippopotamuses and tree climbing lions.
At different times of the year, Lake Manyara hosts a number of flamingo birds and a number of butterfly species. It is also good for savannah, marshes and acacia woodland vegetation.
Day 8: Depart Lake Manyara and fly to Zanzibar
Before proceeding to Arusha town, bless your intestines with a delicious breakfast. You will have lunch at Arusha and then continue the airport from where you board a flight to Zanzibar.
As soon as you arrive at Zanzibar, our professional guide will meet you and lead you to a beautiful beach resort and mark the beginning of your holiday.
Day 9 – 11: Leisure in Zanzibar
These are spectacular days of rest and relaxation at a beach of your choice at Zanzibar. Here you will enjoy activities such as scuba diving, nature walks, swimming, cultural tours, surfing, snorkeling, to mention but a few.
Visit the stone town; Stone town is one of Zanzibar’s historical city which was declared a World heritage site by UNESCO.
Visit this city under the guidance of a local guide and walk in the footsteps of Arab Sultans of Zanzibar and turn your moments into memories.
Here is an opportunity for you to visit a number of historical sites and discover wonderful labyrinths of Zanzibar.
Nakupenda Sandbanks; Transfer to Prison Island using a wooden engine boat. Here you will view giant tortoises, ancient prison and snorkel around the island in case the weather is conducive. You will come to the climax of the adventure with a delicious lunch at the sand bank.
Spice tour; here is an opportunity for you to enjoy spice plantation tour and discover fruits, climb coconut trees and have a taste of other fruits of Zanzibar.
Day 12: Fly to Kilimanjaro Airport. Departure
The driver or safari guide will pick you from the hotel and lead you to Zanzibar airport depending on your home-bound flight schedule.
You will then connect to Kilimanjaro international airport and bid farewell to East Africa, hence coming to the climax of your safari.
